Dynamics-nav-or-dynamics-365 whats-in-a-name
In the UK we have ‘Dynamics 365 Business Edition’ - Microsoft’s new baby, or just another name?
We have been following this development closely and can now confirm that Dynamics 365 is Dynamics NAV. OK, slightly over simplified, but importantly, the software that you use to run your business if you use Dynamics 365 BE is Dynamics NAV hosted in a Microsoft Cloud, by Microsoft. If you use Dynamics NAV and keep on the latest version you are using exactly the same software, just hosted somewhere else (either on your servers or looked after by someone else like The NAV People). Dynamics 365 is NAV hosted by Microsoft. NAV is Dynamics 365 on other servers.

"Death by RFP" or : how to kill digital innovation and ROI in one easy document
Within the digital domain I have witnessed with increasing frequency how large organizations end up as victims of their own RFP processes (and best intentions) - choosing either the wrong partner, the wrong technology, the wrong approach, or sometimes all of these combined.

The steps to build and deploy apps for Dynamics 365 for Financials
December 19, 2016
I am returning from a small Dynamics partner conference in Newport Beach. One of the recurring themes at this conference, particularly when a Microsoft representative stood before us, was pelting them with questions similar to: “When will Dynamics 365 be finished?”. I was not one of those asking that question, as I already know the answer… Never.

The goal of every manager is to have a team full of exceptional employees. Sometimes the problem is finding them, but more often I see that managers have trouble retainingthe greatest employees.
But what if the problem isn’t them… it’s you?
Are you the sort of boss that great employees want to work for?

For some time among my colleagues arises a question whether the Dynamics NAV Windows client is starting to fall. This question arises every time when the latest version of Dynamics NAV is released.

I listened to Paul White at Directions 2016 last year and his assurances that the Microsoft Dynamics NAV market as we knew it was not going away. Dynamics 365 for Financials was a different and new market segment that, while growing rapidly, would grow alongside the traditional NAV market. Paul had figures from IDC to show that the business we had now would grow 1% in 2019. This was all about owning both, was his message.
At that time I believed him, but as 2017 begins I'm starting to have my doubts. I'm wondering if the subscription loco is about to run us down much quicker and, by the end of 2017, be the dominant force in our market.

25 years ago three young gentlemen from Jutland in Denmark set up a small office in Hamburg, Germany, from where they would sell the Danish financial software program Navigator to German customers. In honor of their achievements here is a short version of a very interesting chapter in the short history of the European software industry.

PowerApps provides a number of out-of-box connectors to store data on SQL, Dropbox, SharePoint and many other platforms. While setting up these connections are simpler, using a data store not only involves thinking about where the data will be stored, but also how the data will be structured and shared with one or more applications. Data also needs to be synchronized between different external sources of data and applications.

There is a lot of talk about NAV and “Open Source” these days. Lots of the talk is related to the new Extension model that Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Dynamics NAV 2016/2017 shares.

The user experience of Dynamics 365 is described well by Microsoft and much more material is expected moving forward. In addition to following these announcements there are essential elements that can help solution developers gain a better understanding of this new and exciting business process ecosystem.

During past few weeks, there were so many announcements happening in Terms of Microsoft Dynamics. I was following most of the discussions, announcement and events via twitter handles and other great bloggers for Dynamics NAV.
This article I would like to summarize what is happening and my thoughts about same. You may agree or disagree, but that is we need from different minds that we have. After having numerous conversations about extensions at Directions US, Directions EMEA and at the UG Summit, this seems to be one of the most asked questions. What is the difference beteween extensions, apps, solution apps and [can we customize individual customers using] cutomer apps? Here is the explanation.*

Generally we got the new product based on the same source code as NAV 2017, but I’m sure they will be absolutely different products in the future; they will have only the same father and mother :) And with Dynamics 365 we cannot continue with the standard customizations; that means we will must use extensions and we have to use to use extensions in the future, not only because Dynamics 365 – because of NAV as well.

For those requiring solutions for on premises or in private clouds, we will continue to innovate in, and support, our great Dynamics CRM, Dynamics AX, NAV, GP and SL solutions. We will also offer customers connectors if they want to use a hybrid of on-premises and cloud solutions and a migration path when they are ready to move to the cloud.

Yeah, I get that a lot. I can hear you saying that Microsoft is completely dependent on you to architect that cloud system and help your customer succeed, etc. I agree, and so would Microsoft… for today. But they don’t need you to install an Exchange Server anymore, or any other server for that matter. In fact they don’t need you to migrate customer email either, theylet you. Everywhere you look, not just Microsoft, but every provider is seeking to make things easier, to eliminate any hurdles that a customer may have to overcome in order to become a paying subscriber. Increasingly, Partners are that hurdle.

Of public information, we know that Project Madeira, will become Dynamics 365 “Business”, aimed at SMBs up to about 100 seats. It is a slimmed down ERP, but don’t call it an ERP around Microsoft, they like to call it “Financials”, apparently the initials E-R-P are scary to those with the initials S-M-B. As you may know, if you have played with the preview, this is a slimmed down NAV, SaaSified. On the other end of Dynamics 365, we have Enterprise, where we can safely refer to the AX component as E-R-P.

What is your primary skill? Writing code? No, it's designing process. OK, you then facilitate that process by writing code but it's the design that's the skilled bit. Its understanding what happens in different types of businesses and defining procedures that are efficient but reliable. And Microsoft could not take that away from you if they wanted to. - See more at: http://www.dynamicsbusiness.co.uk/2016/10/nav-experts-process-design-is-your-value-not-your-code.html#sthash.UfbyyHHY.dpuf
